FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 18, 2004 – Ottawa — The National Research Council of Canada (NRC), in partnership with the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and Science and Engineering Research Canada (commonly known as NSERC), will be holding the Forum of the National Consultation on Access to Scientific Research Data this Monday, November 22 and Tuesday, November 23, 2004.
A group of invited Canadian researchers will explore ways to help Canada maximize the value received from its publicly funded natural sciences, health and engineering research. The purpose of the Forum is to recommend an appropriate framework and guidelines that will in turn facilitate open and long-term access to data stemming from that research. These recommendations will form the basis of a report, which will be submitted to federal granting agencies, partners in the initiative and the Government of Canada.
Key players in this initiative, including Dr. David Strong, distinguished scientist, former President of the University of Victoria, current member of the Governing Council of the NRC and Chair of the NCASRD Task Force, will be available for interviews and photo-ops, during the working dinner only (details below).
